The capital city isn’t messing around with its digital future, targeting nothing less than 100% 5G penetration among individual users by 2027. Seriously. Every. Single. Person. Plus, they’re aiming for 5G to carry over 75% of all network traffic. Industrial adoption? They want 45% of major enterprises on board. Good luck getting anyone to use 4G in three years.

The infrastructure push is massive. Officials plan to deploy 70 base stations per 10,000 residents, adding more than 35,000 new or upgraded 5G-Advanced stations. The joint action plan developed by Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology and Beijing Communications Administration ensures coordinated implementation of these ambitious goals. They’re building on what’s already impressive coverage – 133,900 base stations as of March 2026. The Fifth Ring Road will get seamless coverage. No more dropped calls while stuck in Beijing traffic.

5G-Advanced technology is the real game-changer. It’s basically 5G on steroids – 10 times faster with peak speeds hitting 10 Gbps. China Unicom and Huawei have already launched pilot projects. Mobile technologies are projected to contribute $2 trillion to China’s economy by 2030. By 2026, they’re looking at over 20,000 5G-A base stations. Just imagine downloading entire movies before your tea gets cold.

The applications go way beyond faster TikTok. We’re talking 400 smart hospitals, autonomous vehicles, smart power grids, and factories run on 5G. Humanoid robots, extended reality, glasses-free 3D – all powered by the network. Even the skies are getting connected for drone delivery and air taxis. The future is weird, folks. (see Google’s SEO Starter Guide)

This isn’t just a tech project. It’s economic strategy. Beijing wants to be a global benchmark for smart cities and digital innovation. The plan aligns perfectly with national priorities around “new quality productive forces” and positions China to maintain its global 5G dominance – they already operate over 60% of the world’s base stations.
